Matthew K. Melton
Quite honestly, there are many things in life that are meant to be captured. Whether it be a creative snapshot, life's biggest or smallest moments, a sports game, or anything really... There are always ways to capture the moment. Funny enough, when I started to do photography, I was more into video production and editing movies, than I was into photography itself. But slowly, I realized how much both complemented each other and used similar techniques when telling stories. My love for photography came when I saw the expressions on student athletes' faces in my photographs for my school's yearbook publication and my ability to express myself with mental images that I capture.
For me, photography has brought out the best and worst in me; from attending the events, sports games, photo ops, and much more, to the countless hours spent working on Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop; there are many things that I could have done, but instead, I spent my time doing photography because of the incredible passion I had developed. My days were consumed merely on the basis of completing the task at hand: Completing the work that I signed up to do. Photography has been my way of expressing the inner me without even saying a word. Fun fact: I was known at my high school as "the photographer" or "the yearbook kid". Sometimes, it's Matthew, but more often than not, it was one of the two terms.
A quote that holds true for me and many others is: "If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life" - Marc Anthony. Mainly because for me, I can treat photography many ways; one day I can treat it as an outlet from the stresses of everyday life and another I can treat it as a sport because I'd have to run across a field to capture the moment various times. Since I love photography so much, I don't see it as a job or a chore, but more of a lifestyle that I love.
